FEBRUARY 29 only happens once every four years.
According to tradition, that’s the day the ladies can take the lead and propose - and for one lucky Eastbourne lady, the day couldn’t have gone better.
Hannah Daniel was the winner of Sovereign FM’s competition Take The Leap, which gave one lucky lady the chance to propose to their partner, and, in turn, win pretty much everything they needed for the big day.
Applications opened at the end of January with nearly 100 prospective brides wanting to take part.
A shortlist of five were selected to appear on air and be the subject of a public vote.
The two with the most votes then went head to head in a live grand final on the Richard Reynolds Breakfast Show on the morning of February 29.
After winning, Hannah then got the opportunity to speak to her partner Paul Gates live on air, and pop the question.
Hannah first met Paul when they both worked at Homebase in 2001.
They have been together ever since, and last year became proud parents to baby Samuel.
Hannah said, “There is no way we could plan, organise or afford to get married, so when I realised that I’d won I was completely overwhelmed.
“Paul had no idea that I had entered so he was gobsmacked.”
Paul Williams, Sovereign FM’s programme controller, said, “Hannah and Paul have won a great package including a venue for their ceremony, a wedding breakfast for 50 people, a stay in a country hotel on the night, the rings, the dress, the car, hair and make-up, suit hire, the cake and so much more.
“We wish them all the very best for their future together as husband and wife.”
