Hampden Park is set for a blooming year

HAMPDEN Park is set for a blooming marvellous year as locals prepare to turn it into a red, white and blue wonderland.

As part of Hampden Park in Bloom, volunteers are preparing to replant the tubs in Brassey Parade and Queens Parade within the next week.

The colour scheme this year will be red, white and blue in honour of the Queen’s jubilee and the Olympics.

To encourage local gardeners to join in, there will be garden voucher prizes for the best turned out gardens – with £50 going to the winner, £30 for the runner-up and £15 for third prize.

Application forms are available from Hampden Park Library, the Brodrick Road Community Centre and 66 Attfield Walk or 10 Parkfield Avenue. Hampden Park Station will also be looking more colourful when window boxes will be put inside the station.

The Princess Diana Memorial garden will be open again by the mayor on Monday and then open from 10am to 5pm Monday to Fridays. To help improve Hampden Park call 505740.
