THE Mayor of Hailsham, Councillor Robin Kempe, was in attendance at the Sussex County President’s Poppy Appeal Awards evening on Wednesday, March 2, to hand out some of the nine accolades to cadets of the No. 19 Hailsham Platoon, for their assistance with charity collections and support for Royal British Legion services in 2010.

Other guests of honour included Hailsham Mayoress Councillor Carolyn Kempe and Royal British Legion Hailsham Branch chairman Mike Weller.

Detachment Commander Sergeant Tristan Martin said, “Part of being a cadet in the Army Cadet Force is being a good citizen and helping others.

“This year, our detachment has worked very closely with the Royal British Legion to assist with raising much needed funds and attending the many events that they hold.”

“The number of certificates presented this evening demonstrates just how many young people out there do want to make a difference to other people’s lives,” he added.
