THIS year’s Annual Primary Schools Quiz was closer than ever with Grovelands clinching victory in a nail-biting finish.
Teams from five primary schools across Hailsham pitted their wits against each other when they took part in the annual competition organised by Hailsham Rotary Club at Grovelands County Primary School on Wednesday March 9.
Pupils from Grovelands, Marshlands, Hawkes Farm, White House and Herstmonceux primary schools packed into the main hall of the school to support their respective teams as they were quizzed on a host of topics in a bid to claim victory.
The contest came to a thrilling finish, with only two points separating the winning team from the runners up from Herstmonceux County Primary.
The Challenge Cup, named in honour of former Hailsham Rotary Club president Tommy Tomlinson was presented to the winning team from Grovelands by his daughter Diana Hughes.
The club’s current president Simon Marden, thanked all those who had taken part and presented certificates to all of the team members and cheques to each participating school.
He said, “Once again the Schools Quiz has resulted in a very close contest.
“The young team members astounded us again with their depth of knowledge in so many subjects and in my view the taking part in the competition is more important than the result,” he added.
