TOWN and district councillor Jo Bentley helped to mark the start of the nationwide Armed Forces Week on Monday morning at a special flag raising ceremony, pictured above.

Hailsham town councillors gathered, with representatives from the local Royal British Legion and Royal Air Forces Association to raise the Armed Forces Day standard at the war memorial in Hailsham High Street, in honour of past and present troops.

At the ceremony, Councillor Bentley spoke of her pride in the UK’s Armed Forces and the sacrifices they continue to make, “Armed Forces Week is a way of recognising the men and the women in the military who have put their families and themselves on the front line during past and current conflicts.

“We greatly appreciate their commitment to our country and our regard for the Armed Forces and all that they do should be without limit.

“I hope as many Hailsham residents as possible are able to join us again to honour them at the Armed Forces Day service this Sunday.”
