HAILSHAM: Choral group celebrates half century with Messiah

HAILSHAM Choral Society marks its 50th anniversary by performing a free concert of Handel’s Messiah at St Saviour’s Church, Eastbourne, on November 12 (7.30pm).

Soloists include Elisabeth Marshall (soprano), Catherine Backhouse (mezzo), Richard Monk (tenor) and Andrew Rupp (bass).

Elisabeth is now resident in the UK but studied at University of Southern Maine and Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. She has previously performed the Messiah with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra

Catherine obtained her music degree at Durham University, has appeared on four albums and performs with the BBC Singers, Polyphony, and London Voices.

Richard also graduated from Jacobs School, Indiana, has been recorded by the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic and has recently sung at Glyndebourne.

Andrew, originally a chorister at Canterbury Cathedral, has sung with the British Youth Opera, Glyndebourne Touring Opera, and appears on a number of recordings including The John Taverner Collection.

There will be a retiring collection, and any surplus will be donated to charity.
