Eastbourne will be bringing Glastonbury Festival to the seaside this June, as the town broadcasts live BBC footage for free on the big screen.

From June 26 to 28, music fans can relax on the seafront Wish Tower slopes with a picnic blanket and a stellar Glastonbury line-up that includes the likes of The Foo Fighters, Kanye West, Florence & The Machine, Pharrell Williams, Rudimental, Mark Ronson and George Ezra.

Plus on Saturday afternoon, as the star-studded Aegon International Eastbourne tennis reaches its climactic conclusion just a few minutes down the road, sports fans can also catch live BBC footage of the ladies’ singles final on the big screen.

A full programme of music follows on Sunday with soul icon Lionel Ritchie performing in the legendary Sunday teatime slot, which drew the biggest crowd in 2014.

Eastbourne Borough Council lead cabinet member for Culture, Tourism and Enterprise, Cllr Margaret Bannister, said, “If you missed out on Glastonbury tickets then Eastbourne seafront offers the perfect venue to watch all the live coverage, overlooking the beach, right through until the sun goes down.

“It’s a very family friendly atmosphere and we’re delighted to be adding tennis to the line-up this year too.”

The free weekend screening is the first of three big screen free events this year, with BBC’s Last Night of the Proms screened on the Western Lawns on September 12 and the opening weekend of the Rugby World Cup at Eastbourne Rugby Club on September 18 - 20.

A full licensed bar will be available at the Glastonbury screening, along with food and a barbecue, provided by Devonshire Park Catering.

A limited number of chairs are available, however festival-goers are advised to bring their own or a picnic blanket to ensure they get a comfortable seat.

The big screen will be in operation from 5.30pm – 10.30pm on Friday, 1pm – 10.30pm on Saturday and 2pm – 10pm on Sunday.

The ladies’ singles final begins at 1.30pm on Saturday, with Glastonbury footage commencing at the end of the final. For more information visit www.visiteastbourne.com/events
