Give a dog a home...

A dog charity based in Seaford is desperately looking for people to become foster families for the lost and unwanted four-legged animals it looks after.

Waifs and Strays Dog Rescue used to be called Seaford Dog Rescue and was set up by Sue Phillips and Lucy Dunk.

Sue, who also runs the dog grooming service Sue’s Animal Magic, decided to set up the charity with Lucy after being told by a customer about the dog warden coming across strays.

The charity looks for support from families so the four-legged animals can be temporarily re-homed before a long-term solution was found. It changed its name at the beginning of this year after the 48-year-old charity joined forces with kennels in Eastbourne.

Among the four-legged animals looking for a new home is three-year-old springer Spaniel and Jack Russell Cross Bella. Also looking for a place to stay is three-year-old Akita Zena, who came to the rescue in a poor state but has come on in ‘leaps and bounds’ and Dingo, thought to be a German Shepherd Cross, is around 12-18 months old and also looking for a loving home.

The charity also looks after cats and has a litter of kittens that will be ready to go to a home in May.

Sue said, “We have many dogs looking for their forever home, some have been waiting a long time, having been over looked so far.

“Please feel free to give us a call, should you be interested in meeting any of our dogs, to offer them a loving forever home, or maybe you would like to help by becoming a foster family, which can be extremely rewarding.”

Waifs and Strays Dog Rescue is also looking for volunteers to help out in different roles, including fundraising and transport.

On May 25 a family fun day and dog show is taking place to help raise funds for the cause. It takes place between 10am and 2pm at the Downs Leisure Centre in Seaford and includes stalls, attractions and the chance to enter your dog into the show.
