Girl, 5, hit by car in ‘critical condition’

Police have said a five-year-old girl hit by a car yesterday is in a ‘critical condition’.

The incident occurred at 3.15pm yesterday (December 16) in Friday Street, Eastbourne, near the junction of Shinewater Lane.

Sussex Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene.

A light blue Ford Fusion travelling north west collided with a five-year old local girl who was a pedestrian.

She sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to St Georges Hospital,Tooting, South London, where she is currently in a critical condition.

The 64-year-old local woman driving the car was uninjured, but treated for shock.

Headteacher of Shinewater Primary School, Theresa Buttery, confirmed the girl was one of the school’s pupils, and said, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.”
