Gildredge Park Bowling Club - an excellent start to the summer

FRESH from a winter season which saw the successful introduction of twice weekly sessions of short mat bowls in the clubhouse – as well as bridge, coffee mornings, weekly social evenings and other activities – the club has made an excellent start to the summer under the captaincy of Jim Putland and Rosina Jenner.

Rinks opened for play on April 20 and the opening drive was held on April 25 with an excellent 12 rink turnout.

On Spring bank holiday Monday, members narrowly avoided a soaking from thundery skies to complete a most enjoyable afternoon in aid of Diabetes UK with the lady captain's team beating the men's captain.

In addition, the nearly 200 mixed membership traditionally enjoys matches with many touring sides.

In the first month of the season the club has played matches against touring or visiting sides hailing from the Isle of Wight, Dumfries, Monmouth and Warwick, as well as more local clubs.

The current score is: played 13, won 8, lost 5.

Members are once again looking forward to hosting the Eastbourne Open Bowls Tournament on July 12.

There are still vacancies for membership. The greens are at Gildredge Park, The Goffs, Eastbourne BN21 1EY. Call 649689.
