Thousands of people are expected to head to the seafront today (Saturday) for the Eastbourne Sunshine Carnival.
Residents and organisers are hoping for sunshine and the weather forecast is set to be sunny for the morning with dry skies in the afternoon.
The Queen, Charlotte White, and Princess, seven-year-old April Horscraft, will be leading the carnival as it processes along the seafront from the Western Lawns to Princes Park. Road closures will begin at 1pm with the procession expected to get underway at 4pm. The theme of this year’s carnival –to tie in with the World Cup – is Rio by the Sea.
Legal & General Property, owner of the Eastbourne Arndale Centre, is the main sponsor of the carnival for the second year.
Eastbourne MP Stephen Lloyd, patron of Eastbourne Sunshine Carnival, said, “The response to this year’s event – Rio by the Sea – has been absolutely fantastic with more floats, vans and walking processions than ever before – 85 in total!
“Our carnival is turning into everything we envisaged when I brought it back after a 15-year absence. So do come along, bring the kids and have a wonderful time.”
As well as enjoying the procession, spectators also have the chance to win £250 in a special Carnival draw. To be in with a chance to win the cash people need to bring a completed Carnival postcard to the procession and hand them to the Eastbourne Neighbourhood First Team. Postcards can be collected from the Tourist Information Centre, Age Concern Eastbourne and Stephen Lloyd’s Office. The draw takes place at the end of the Carnival at Princes Park.
Parking will be available on the day at the Five Acre Field.
