Cyclists and residents are invited to a launch event being held to mark the opening of a new section of cycle route in Eastbourne.
The section linking Ringwood Road to Lottbridge Drove is the second phase of the Horsey Way cycle route, which connects with Eastbourne Railway Station and will ultimately continue across Willingdon Levels to the Langney roundabout.
The event will see the new section of cycle route officially opened by David Tutt, East Sussex County Council Liberal Democrat member for St Anthony’s and the leader of Eastbourne Borough Council.
It will be held at Bridgemere Community Centre in Bridgmere Road on Friday October 25 from 2pm to 4pm, and will include information stands, a ‘bike doctor’ offering cycle checks and refreshment stalls.
Youngsters from local schools will form a ‘bike train’ to arrive at the site, while representatives from the police and cycle-related organisations will also be present.
The route is being funded by the county council and developed in partnership with sustainable transport charity Sustrans, supported by Eastbourne Borough Council and Eastbourne-based cycling campaign group Bespoke.
The campaign group has welcomed the new section of cycle route but says more needs to be done for cyclists in the town.
