A GROUP which works with blind and partially sighted people has been given £6,000.

The Friends of East Sussex Association of Blind (ESAB) handed the cash over to the charity after raising the cash through membership fees and a 500 club monthly draw, as well as a successful race night held at Westham Village Hall.

Daniel Brookbank, of ESAB, thanked the recently formed Friends for their generosity.

He said, “The Friends of ESAB play a crucial role in raising the profile of the charity as well as helping us to raise funds.

“They have an excellent calendar of events coming up in 2012 including concerts, an art exhibition summer garden openings and much more.

“I urge you all to become a Friend.”

The chairman of the Friends, Shirley Price, said how pleased she was to have got the friends off to such a good start.

“We now have more than 70 members of over 150 lucky numbers sold in our 500 club draw,” she said.

“I am very proud to have been asked to chair this group and look forward to a good programme of events next year.”
