Alfriston has been immortalised by its twin town. Part of the seafront at Veules les Roses has been named after the historic village. Alfriston and Cuckmere Twinning Association crossed the Channel to celebrate the anniversary of the liberation of the Normandy town in 1944 as the Second World War approached its climax. During the visit part of Veules les Roses seafront was renamed Promenade des Anglais d’Alfriston and the plaque was unveiled during the celebrations by the town’s Mayor, Jean Claude Claire, and June Goodfield, Chairman of the Twinning Association.
