Exceptionally low temperatures this March have triggered cold weather payments, available to everybody on Pension Credit.
Each seven-day period of freezing temperatures results in an automatic payment of £25 to those people who are eligible.
Town MP Stephen Lloyd, a member of the Work and Pensions Select Committee, said: ‘Cold weather payments of £25 provide invaluable help to elderly Eastbourne and Willingdon residents when the temperature drops, which we’ve all seen it do the last few weeks.’
He added: ‘The most important thing is to get the word out about cold weather payments so that vulnerable people are aware of the help they are entitled to.
“The Coalition Government has set aside money to ensure that these pensioners are able to pay their fuel bills and stay warm in this treacherously cold weather.”
