Freelancers can get creative with shared space plan

PLANS to establish a modern co-working hub for creative types in Eastbourne are moving on apace – with a free taster day pencilled in for later this month.

The Herald has already reported on Stuart and Laura Lambert’s idea to create a shared space in the town to allow freelancers and home workers to benefit from the same environment enjoyed by larger teams.

According to the couple, reaction to the plans have been positive, with a number of local people saying they would welcome the chance to interact with others in a similar position to themselves, or have somewhere to meet and share expertise.

And on Thursday, May 17, the co-working project, dubbed CoHub, will get up and running with a day’s free space share.

Set on the second flood of Printers Bar Brasserie in Station Street, the so called Jelly day will give people a glimpse of how they could benefit from a work hub.

Mr Lambert said, “A co-working space enables independents, freelancers, small business owners, entrepreneurs and social enterprises to work in a shared space that has all the benefits of a large corporate office without the corporate mentality.

“Working in a co-working space like CoHub provides natural opportunities for collaboration between and networking with like minded individuals.

“Members will also benefit from unlimited tea and coffee, super-fast broadband, break out areas and formal meeting room space to connect with clients.

“It is hoped that CoHub will be up and running by the summer but in the meantime we would like to invite people to Eastbourne’s first ever Jelly Day.

“There is no fixed agenda, no guest speakers and no compulsory participation in activities.

“You can just work for the day as normal while enjoying the friendly atmosphere and opportunities to chat with others or actively seek out others to collaborate on ideas with.

“As well as comfortable tables and chairs there will be snacks, a light lunch and caffeine on tap.”

Anyone who would like to take part should email hello@cohub.co.uk, call 01323 707500 or tweets @CoHubEB using the hashtag #EBjelly.
