POLICE have tonight confirmed that a body recovered from cliffs at Splash Point in Seaford is former EastEnders actor, Paul Bhattacharjee.
The 53-year-old went missing last week sparking widespread appeals from leading show business stars, including Stephen Fry and Kim Cattrall.
Tonight, the Metropolitan Police said that officers investigating his disappearance were contacted by Sussex Police earlier today and informed that the body of a man matching Mr Bhattacharjee’s description had been recovered from cliffs at Splash Point last Friday.
This afternoon, the body was identified in Sussex as Mr Bhattacharjee. Next of kin have been informed and police have said the actor’s death is not being treated as suspicious.
Mr Bhattacharjee was last seen leaving rehearsals at the Royal Court Theatre in London last Wednesday and his disappearance sparked a major appeal through Twitter.
The actor starred in EastEnders as Inzamam between 2008 and 2010 and he played a doctor in the 2006 James Bond film, Casino Royale.
He had also appeared in the films The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, White Teeth and Dirty Pretty Things, and had been due to appear in this week’s play Talk Show at the Royal Court. Other television appearances included Waking the Dead, Spooks and The Bill.
