Bonfire boys and girls flooded Eastbourne seafront with a sea of torchlight at the weekend as the town’s annual bonfire celebrations ended in the burning of the Beachy Head Lighthouse.
The identity of the effigy due to be burnt at Eastbourne Bonfire was a closely guarded secret and crowds were surprised to see the iconic local landmark paraded along the coastal stretch before being tossed on the pyre.
Starting at Fishermen’s Green, the flame-lit march included a host of visitor bonfire societies alongside Eastbourne’s own and local drumming section Pentacle stole the show with a display of their usual high-octane endeavour.
A firework display rounded off the evening, with the bonfire being burnt between the bandstand and the Wish Tower site.
A bucket collection raised cash for local charities and further reaction and photos will be printed in this Friday’s Herald.
