FIREFIGHTERS planning a charity trek this year are celebrating the new year with the news their fundraising has topped the £5,000 mark already. Fifteen firefighters from green watch will cover 1,000 miles over four days on six scooters in May visiting all four countries of the British Isles. They are raising money for Clic Sargent, which looks after children with cancer and leukaemia, and the Firefighter’s Charity.

Green watch crew manager Bob Newton MBE said he was pleased that the coffers had now hit £5,200. “This total has been achieved with the help of funds raised over the Christmas period,” said Bob. “Green watch has been out collecting with the help of Santa on his magic sleigh. We thank especially the residents of Croxden Way in Hampden Park, who were so generous and made us very welcome. We will return again next year with lots more sweets.”

A number of further fundraisers are planned for this year including a Fire Station Open Day, a charity car wash and football match.
