Firefighters called to Lewes Prison

Firefighters were called to reports of a fire at Lewes Prison this afternoon (Thursday, January 7).

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were called at 4:20pm and sent three crews - one from Lewes and two from Preston Circus - to Brighton Road.

The fire, which was small and contained, was out when firefighters arrived at the scene.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.
