The three brothers who have run family business Park Avenue Garage for 45 years have retired.

Chris, Tim and Jon Hookham have thanked their loyal customers over the years.

Tim told the Herald, “I started part-time when I was just 14 years old, which was 48 years ago.

“My father owned the garage since before the war.

“I went full time 38 years ago.

“Our secretary Annette Larkin has also been with us for 35 years.”

The business spent most of its years in Park Avenue before moving to Harvington Business Park in Brampton Road seven years ago after the land opposite Ratton School was sold off for housing.

They are handing over to PR Autos, formerly of East Dean Road, and keeping on staff member Simon who has been working with the three Hookham brothers since 1988.

The brothers and their valued secretary Annette have written a letter to customers thanking them for their support over the years.

They said, “We are sure that Brian and his friend Tom will continue with the good practice that we had tried, over the last 45 years, to employ in all our dealings with each of you. “We look back over the intervening years with a sense of fondness towards our customers, their cars and an amazing array of stories and problems encounters and surmounted.

“Chris has always said he’d write an anecdotal book of garage memoirs, he may now have time.

“A whole hearted thank you and a final goodbye.”

The Hookham brothers and Annette said goodbye to customers and handed over to PR Autos on June 1.
