Police are appealing for witnesses after arsonists targeted two homes in Willingdon.
Sussex Police released details today (October 23) of two arson attacks at homes on Eastbourne Road between 11pm on Friday October 9 and 5.30am on Saturday October 10.
The owner of the first property hit and his family were asleep upstairs in the property at the time of the attack. A fire was started.
The offenders then tried to start a blaze at the house next door but the fire did not take hold and burnt out before it caused too much damage.
Police say the fires, which are being treated as arson and arson with intent to endanger life, caused damage to the first house and two vehicles.
The victims only discovered the damage the next morning.
Detective Constable Paul Kelly, who is investigating the incident, said, “We do not believe these addresses were deliberately targeted and these were random attacks on two neighbouring premises.
“However, both victims have been left extremely distressed and upset as a result of their ordeal, particularly the family who are still extremely shaken by what has happened.
“A number of enquiries are already underway in an attempt to identify the suspects but we would still like to hear from anyone who witnessed either of the attacks, or who has any other information, to get in touch with us.”
Police ask anyone who witnessed either of these incident to email Sussex Police at email@example.com or call 101 quoting serial 269 of 10/10.
Alternatively witnesses can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
