THE quality of treated wastewater returned to the environment from East Dean will be improved thanks to a £2m Southern Water scheme.
Construction has finished on the environmental improvement scheme to upgrade East Dean Wastewater Treatment Works in Birling Gap.
The work has included the refurbishment of parts of the existing plant to ensure the site provides higher treatment levels with minimal impact on the environment.
Julie Anne Stokes, Southern Water’s project manager, said, “We take our environmental responsibilities seriously and the refurbishment will ensure the treated wastewater leaving the works continues to meet stringent standards set by the Environment Agency.”
This work is part of Southern Water’s ongoing environmental improvement programme being carried out across the region in Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. The work was carried out by supplier 4Delivery.
