ENTRIES are now open for the Eastbourne Half Marathon 2011 – and organisers are hoping the 13-mile event will be bigger and better than ever before.
The event, which regularly attracts more than 1,000 entrants, raised more than £75,000 for local charities in 2010.
The course winds its way through the town’s parks, Sovereign Harbour and along the seafront.
Taking place on March 6, keen athletes, joggers and walkers can sign up now, with the event offering a great way to kickst art a healthy New Year’s resolution.
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism Councillor Neil Stanley said, “The Eastbourne Half Marathon is always a popular event with hundreds of people taking part to raise money for some worthy local causes.
“Whether it’s a group of friends taking on a challenge, work colleagues competing, or athletes looking to set a new personal record, the course offers a great way to keep fit and a real sense of personal achievement.
“With the course passing through Sovereign Harbour and along the seafront, it also makes great viewing for spectators and I hope that residents and visitors get the date in their diaries now to come along and give the entrants some much needed support next March.”
Reid+Dean is sponsoring the Eastbourne Half Marathon in 2011 and is already appealing for volunteer stewards and marshals to come forward and help on the day, with the event starting and finishing in Princes Park.
