JOHN Godber's Olivier-Award comedy Up 'n' Under, comes to the Devonshire Park Theatre from June 23-27.

The Wheatsheaf Arms rugby side are proud of their unbroken record – of defeat. But trainer Arthur (an ex-Wakefield Trinity hooker) has accepted a bet to turn the players into a winning team.

With his life savings on the line Arthur has to turn this defeated and dejected team into winners… within five weeks.

To win the bet this troupe of amateurs have to beat the most feared and intimidating side in the Northern pub seven-a-side league, their arch rivals the mean men of the Cobblers Arms.

With the help of local gym owner Hazel Scott, can the inept, lazy and out of shape Wheatsheaf Arms layabouts really be transformed into a lean-mean winning team?

Written by John Godber, author of Teechers, Bouncers and Lucky Sods, Up 'n' Under was the winner of the Laurence Olivier award for Comedy of the Year.

John Godber is one of the most popular British playwrights of all time and the third most performed British playwright in the UK behind Shakespeare and Alan Ayckbourn.

The show is produced by acclaimed Brighton-based production company Talking Scarlet, who are making their Eastbourne debut with this award-winning comedy.

Up 'n' Under was also turned into a successful film starring Samantha Janus and Neil Morrissey in 1998.

Evening performances are at 7.45pm with Wednesday and Saturday matinees at 2.30pm.

• Tickets cost from 13.50-19.50, call 412000.
