Employers across East Sussex are backing the You’re Hired East Sussex apprenticeship campaign, which aims to help local businesses strengthen their workforce and create job and training opportunities for young people.

You’re Hired East Sussex is a five-month campaign to find 500 businesses across the five districts and boroughs of the county who will pledge to hire an apprentice. It is also seeking 500 work-ready young people who want to be apprentices.

Launched on Monday March 9 during National Apprenticeship Week, the campaign has already made a promising start - with 228 employers pledging to hire an apprentice at the campaign’s three simultaneous launch events, which introduced the business community to the campaign and helped them to find out more about apprenticeships.

After a televised opening speech from Chief Executive of East Sussex County Council Becky Shaw, guests heard from employers and apprentices that are already benefitting from apprenticeships, and spoke to local training providers about the options and support available to them.

The events were each compered by a prominent member of the local business community. At the end of the night, guests were urged to sign up to the campaign and pledge to hire an apprentice. The Eastbourne launch was held in the Town Hall and was compered by Martin Ellis, Business Development Manager at Recruitment South East.

Employers and apprentices from Crowhurst Park Holiday Village and Sussex Downs College shared their apprenticeship experiences with the audience, and catering was provided by Sussex Downs College.

You’re Hired East Sussex is being led by East Sussex County Council in partnership with the National Apprenticeship Service, Apprenticeships in Sussex, the Federation of Small Businesses, The Alliance of Chambers in East Sussex (ACES), Lewes District Council, LEAP, Eastbourne Borough Council, Wealden District Council, Hastings Borough Council, Rother District Council, Eastbourne Jobs Hub, the Youth Employability Service (YES), Plumpton College, Sussex Downs College, Sussex Coast College, Central Sussex College, Rewards Training, Youthforce, HIT Training, JTL Training, Ixion Holdings, Abacus Training, 3aaa Training, and Steve Willis Training Centres.
