Eliza Carthy and Friends to appear at Hailsham Pavilion
ELIZA Carthy and Friends will be performing at the Hailsham Pavilion on December 12 (7.30pm).
A truly inventive and innovative singer and fiddle-player, Carthy is also a gifted musical conceptualist who treats the bequest of the folk tradition with respect and knowledge – and sometimes with refreshing irreverence.
She is without doubt the most engaging performer of her generation and has won a string of awards that include two nominations for the coveted Mercury Music Prize, an unrivalled seven BBC Folk Awards, innumerable other accolades, and has performed and recorded with such a diverse array of artists as Paul Weller, Nick Cave and Joan Baez.
This promises to be a very special night for along with band members Willy Molleson (drums), Phil Alexander, (keyboards), Emma Smith (strings) and Barney Morse-Brown (from the Imagined Village), there are a couple of opening sets planned from Dogan Mehmet, finalist at the 2008 BBC Young Folk Awards.
Following Dogan is Canadian singer and virtuoso guitarist Aidan Curran, who incorporates a wide range of influences in his playing style from bluegrass to blues and gypsy jazz.
Tickets cost 19.50, call 841414..
