Conservative Caroline Ansell spoke to the Eastbourne Herald minutes after being announced as the winner of the parliamentary election battle.
She clinched victory with a majority of just 700 votes after a tense night at the count at the Winter Garden.
The results were announced at 4.30am and came as a crushing defeat for Liberal Democrat Stephen Lloyd, who was defending his 3,453 majority and was predicted to retain the seat.
