Police are seeking a bogus caller who stole cash from an elderly Eastbourne resident over the Bank Holiday weekend.

The victim was an 85-year-old woan who was called upon at her home in Wharf Road sometime between 11am and 1pm on Saturday when he offered to cut back some overhanging branches, and seeking a cup of of tea.

After he left, the woman noticed that some £50 cash was missing from her purse.

The man is described as white, in his twenties, 6ft tall and slim, with dark brown short hair and smartly dressed. He spoke with a southern accent.

Detective Constable Mark Davis of the East Sussex Priority Crime Team said; “If you were in the Wharf Road area last Friday and saw this man please give us a call on 101. You can also call independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

“We also remind residents not to let cold callers into their home unless completely satisfied about their identity and a good reason for being there. If in doubt keep them out and contact the police via 101 or 999.”
