PLANS are in the pipeline for Seaford Head Community College (SHCC) to become a Foundation School.
The college, which has two campuses at Steyne Road and Arundel Road, wants to acquire a charitable Trust known as The Seaford Trust.
Consultation on the proposals have already got underway with key stakeholders invited to give their response.
The governors have been considering Trust Status for the college which means the governors will assume additional responsibilities for managing the school’s land and assets, employing the staff and its admissions. If the changes go ahead the school will still remain a state school.
Earlier this year Ratton School converted to a foundation school and in October last year Hailsham Community College took the same action and formed a trust with three other primary schools in the town.
SHCC is now in the final stages of the consultation process with the aim of becoming a Trust from September 1 this year.
Governors believe the acquisition of Trust Status will make a positive difference to the standards already achieved at the college over the past five years.
The chair of governors, Trevor Perks, said, “The governors have given this initiative a great deal of thought and are very excited about what the future holds for Seaford Head Community College.”
A spokesman for East Sussex County Council, added, “We’ve supported the college as it’s looked at which choice of governance arrangements suits it best and we will continue to work very closely with the school.
“We have a number of schools that have considered trust status but whatever the governance arrangements of the school we regard all our schools in East Sussex as part of a family of schools and expect that to continue.”
Any comments or objections should be forwarded to the Governing Body by Wednesday June 22 and addressed to Mr T Perks, Chair of Governors, Seaford Head Community College, Arundel Road, Seaford, BN25 4LX or email: email@example.com.
A Full Governing Body meeting will take place on Monday July 4 when a final decision will be made.
Full details of the consultations can be found on the school website (www.seafordhead.e-sussex.sch.uk) in the Community/Trust Status Consultation report and feedback section.
