Airbourne and Eastbourne Tourist Information Centre picked up two prestigious awards this week, winning Gold and Silver at the South East’s premier tourism awards.

Eastbourne’s annual airshow came top in the Tourism Event of the Year category at the South East Beautiful South Awards, while the town’s Tourist Information Centre scooped silver in the Visitor Information Provider of the Year category.

The Gold win, which comes after this summer’s busiest ever day in the show’s 23 year history, puts Airbourne and the TIC in the running for a VisitEngland Tourism Excellence Award, with winners announced during English Tourism Week next March.

The awards were collected by representatives of Eastbourne Borough Council, the Rotary Club of Sovereign Harbour, Eastbourne Chamber of Commerce and Eastbourne Hospitality Association.

Eastbourne Borough Council Lead Cabinet Member for Culture, Tourism and Enterprise, Cllr Margaret Bannister said, “After a record year for Airbourne and improvements that have seen a dramatic increase in footfall to the Tourist Information Centre, it’s fantastic to see Eastbourne’s hard work recognised.

“This is a magnificent achievement and really puts us in the higher echelon of tourist destinations.”
