The town’s War Memorial was hit by vandals during the night who placed a To Let sign on the arm of the statue.
It was discovered early this morning and police and council officers were alerted.
Eastbourne Borough Council’s Customer First team quickly arrived at the scene and the sign was removed.
The incident came as this week marked the 75th anniversary of bombs being dropped in the town during the Second World War.
The war memorial is H C Fehr’s Angel of Victory which stands atop a small globe surrounded with wreaths, wings upraised, as if just descended from on high. In one hand she holds a wreath, in the other a downward pointing sword to make the sign of the cross.
