AN EASTBOURNE teenager has been stabbed in the leg during a brawl near a bonfire event in Lewes.
The 18-year-old was treated at the scene by St John Ambulance staff, while a 17-year-old, who was also stabbed, was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.
Police believe the weapon used in the attack was a Stanley knife.
Officers, who were on duty for the Nevill Juvenile Bonfire Society’s celebrations on Saturday (October 22), were called to nearby Prince Edwards Road at 10.50pm after reports of the fight, which is believed to have broken out over a girl.
A Sussex Police spokesman said this week, “This incident appears to have arisen between some bystanders.
“We must point out it has nothing at all to do with the bonfire event itself or anyone directly connected with it.
“Anyone who saw what happened is asked to contact us via 0845 60 60 999 quoting serial 1763 of 22/10.”
Four other teenagers, from 15 to 17 years of age and all from the Lewes area, were arrested on suspicion of assault and have been released on police bail until December 1 while further enquiries are carried out.
