AN ADVENTURER is sailing his way into Eastbourne as part of what he hopes will be a record-breaking trip round the UK.
Ludo Bennett-Jones is no stranger to gruelling challenges having previously driven to Mongolia in a Peugeot 106 and run the London Marathon.
His latest effort though will take some topping. Ludo is midway through a 2,500 mile journey around the coastline of England, Scotland and Wales and is due in Eastbourne sometime over the next week.
If he managed it he will be the youngest person ever to complete the voyage in a dinghy.
The 21-year-old, from Oxfordshire, hopes to raise £100,000 for charity – with a local group among those set to benefit from his herculean effort.
Furniture Now is based in Eastbourne and runs training programmes for young adults not in education, employment or training. It aims to make people more employable and works with them on numeracy, literacy and retails skills, as well as providing practical experience in its store.
He decided to sail round the UK – partly to keep his parents happy, after they kyboshed plans to go further afield.
“My parents have vetoed solo offshore racing for the moment so I made a compromise,” he explained. “I decided to sail around Britain in a dinghy to raise funds for charities.”
