Local musician and songwriter David Ford has been awarded the prestigious prize of ‘Song of the Year’ at France’s premier music awards ceremony Les Victoires de la Musique, also known as the ‘French Grammys’.
He accepted his prize for his song, ‘20 Ans’ which was chosen by legendary French singer Johnny Hallyday for his latest album which sold over half a million copies.
The song was also released as a single and topped the French music charts last year.
David’s original English lyric version of the song, ‘Alright Now’ appeared on his 2007 album Songs for the Road and was released as a single the same year.
David, 35, has lived most of his life in Eastbourne. He was previously the frontman for the band Easyworld and since 2004 has been a solo performer with a string of critically-acclaimed albums and performances in the UK and America.
His debut album ‘I Sincerely Apologise for All the Trouble I’ve Caused’ was named as one of the top ten albums of the year by both The Sunday Times and Word Magazine.
Since then he has released four albums and has built a reputation as one of the UKs best live performers, described by The Guardian as ‘unmissable... one of Britain’s best’.
He has recently embarked on a national tour and is heading back to the USA in May.
