An armed robber has struck at a town centre betting shop – and police believe it is the same man who robbed another store on December 3.
The Ladbrokes shop in Carlisle Road was robbed at gunpoint on Thursday (December 20) just as it was closing.
At just a few minutes past 8pm, a man approached the till to place a bet, before pulling out a gun and demanding money.
A large quantity of cash was handed over and the suspect left the shop and turned right towards the Winter Garden Theatre.
Detective Constable Jim Austin said, “The member of staff at the shop who was threatened with a gun was uninjured but understandably shaken.
“This is the second time within a month a betting shop has been robbed at gunpoint and we believe this is the same man carrying out the robbery.
“We again have a very good image of the man and we hope someone recognises him. He is described as black, 5’ 10”, slim and aged between 21 and 25.
“He was wearing blue jeans and a dark blue jacket.”
The previous robbery happened at the Ladbrokes in Seaside at around 9am on Monday December 3.
A man approached the till in the betting shop to place a bet but when the counter assistant was processing the bet he realised the man was pointing a gun at him.
The suspect told the victim to open the safe and give him the money.
The victim placed a quantity of money in a bag and gave it to the suspect who walked out of the shop, removing the balaclava he was wearing as he went and headed in the direction of Firle Road.
