Eastbourne Pier has been crowned the third best pier in the country by the National Pier Society.

Ian Gardner, from Cuerden Leisure, which owns Eastbourne Pier, said, “We are delighted that two of our piers have been awarded joint third place reflecting the dedication, hard work and care that our piers managers and teams have for their respective piers.

“It is particularly pleasing to see Eastbourne Pier recognised after such a difficult summer following the terrible fire.”

Three of Cuerden Leisure‘s other piers are up for sale – for a collective £13 million – but the firm said it had no intention to put Eastbourne’s landmark on the market.

Mr Gardner said, “The sale of Llandudno and Blackpool piers has no impact on Eastbourne Pier, and our focus to remove the remaining damaged steelwork and complete the replacement of the decking area beneath the destroyed Blue Room in time for the beginning of the summer holidays.”
