Eastbourne’s all-weather lifeboat (ALB) crew went to the aid of a yacht yesterday (Sunday) morning which had suffered engine failure.
The ALB diverted from crew training to help the yacht which encountered problems while approaching the entrance to the Sovereign Harbour. The ALB was refuelling in the area when an emergency call was received.
Low on fuel, the yacht was unable to negotiate the harbour entrance without engine power and called Dover Coastguard for assistance and HM Coastguard went on to request the assistance of Eastbourne lifeboat. The lifeboat crew was on the scene within minutes and towed the yacht to the safety of the harbour locks.
