Eastbourne RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat Diamond Jubilee was soon back in action following engine and electrical modifications when she was called to rescue a stranded offshore angler yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, September 3).

With some of the crew off station delivering a relief lifeboat 16-10 to Lowestoft on the east coast, it was left to Deputy Coxswain Paul Rogers to assemble a crew of volunteers to go to the assistance of a lone angler aboard his 15ft vessel that had suffered engine failure and was drifting 4.5 miles offshore near the Sovereign Light Tower.

When on scene the ALB took the disabled vessel under tow and returned it to the outer harbour of Sovereign Harbour where it was passed to the harbour workboat.
