Eastbourne’s all-weather lifeboat (ALB) was launched on Monday afternoon (April 20) to recover a stranded yacht that had suffered an electrical failure while approaching Sovereign Harbour.

The 35ft sail training yacht with six cadets on board suffered a battery failure, meaning the crew were unable to start the vessel’s engine for the final approach to Sovereign Harbour following their passage from the Solent. In a brisk easterly wind on a falling tide, it was considered too hazardous to attempt to sail through the narrow harbour entrance so the crew wisely requested assistance. Eastbourne’s ALB crew passed a towline to the stricken vessel and returned it to the marina locks.
