An Eastbourne man was at the wheel of one of the vehicles in a two-car smash which brought down power cables on the B2192 this morning (Wednesday, December 10).

The collision took place at 6am on the stretch of road between Ringmer and Halland known as The Broyle. The road is expected to be closed to traffic for most of the day.

The vehicle drien by a 27-year-old Lewes man sheared through a pole carrying the cables before ending up in a ditch.

The other vehicle was driven by a 49-year-old man from East Dean who was accompanied by a 46-year-old passenger from Eastbourne. There were no serious injuries.

Engineers called to repair the damaged pole and cables are expecting the work to take several hours.
