Eastbourne Concert Orchestra to give Christmas concert

THE EASTBOURNE Concert Orchestra will be giving its Christmas Concert on December 8 (7.45pm) in the Eastbourne Town Hall.

The concert will be conducted by Brian Smith MBE and tickets cost 8 including refreshments.

The first half of the concert is from classical repertoire . The second half is of a very seasonal flavour.

Beginning with the overture Der Frieschutz (The Huntsman) by Carl Maria von Weber. The opera first performed in Berlin in 1821, is rarely heard these days, but the overture is a much loved orchestral item, especially valued for its use of the French Horns in the opening slow passages.

Andrew Gill is soloist in the Haydn Trumpet Concerto. Written in 1706 for the trumpeter Anton Weidinger, this is surely one of the most popular of all wind instrument concerti.

The first half ends with the Unfinished Symphony by Schubert.

After the interval there will be a bouquet of popular music that conjures up the delights of Christmas.

Tickets cost 8 including refreshments. Call 723035 or buy them on the door .
