Staff at a care agency did not receive ‘effective’ training – according to a report by a health watchdog.
Kind Hands Caring Services Ltd, based in Whitley Road, Eastbourne, has been rated ‘requires improvement’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
The agency provides personal care and support to older people living in their own homes around Eastbourne , with carers looking after people with mobility issues and dementia.
A report by the CQC said, “People were looked after by staff who were caring and kind and took account of people’s privacy and dignity.”
However, inspectors discovered the service was ‘not always effective’ and there was a ‘limited induction plan’ for new employees.
The report states, “Staff were not clear on what was required if someone lacked the capacity to understand a decision that needed to be made about their life.
“Staff did not receive consistent and effective training in all areas.”
Staff told inspectors they would welcome more practical training, especially for safe moving and handling, but added the agency’s management and leadership was supportive.
Kind Hands was rated good for being caring and safe.
Inspectors said people at the home and their relatives felt supported and people’s medicines were managed safely.
The report said, “All residents said that they were treated with dignity and respect at all times and felt comfortable with and confident in the staff who supported them.”
Kind Hands declined to comment after being approached by the Herald.
