Eastbourne and District Diabetic Club - welcoming physiotherapist
THE last meeting of the current club programme is today (June 24) at the Diabetes Centre, District General Hospital, Kings Drive, Eastbourne from 7pm and it should be an exercise to all as we are welcoming Donna Gurr the specialist physiotherapist, who is coming to talk about exercise for everyone, dealing with balance and falls and dealing with daily living.
For anyone who is interested in joining the Eastbourne and District Diabetic Club or would like more information please either come to one of the events or ring the Chairman Philip on 639286 or the Secretary Janet on 508007.
We welcome anyone who is diabetic, has diabetes in the family or has an interest in the subject.
RECENTLY nearly 200 members met in the Winter Garden Gold Room to celebrate the Friends' 25th birthday.
In addition to the founder members, their guests were Eastbourne Theatre's artistic director Chris Jordan and his family; and who better to speak and entertain the assembled company but Chris himself.
Aided by a large screen on which visual images, photographs, facts and figures were projected Chris told his life story, and spoke of the challenge which he continues to be presented with as artistic director of the town's four theatres which combined seating totals more than 4,000.
Many of Chris' skills, gained as a children's entertainer in London, and honed when he played the lead in Barnum, were demonstrated as he juggled not just with balls but also with lighted fire brands.
He also showed his sleight of hand with a card trick which also impressed the audience and Peter Easton, the Friends' chairman, who was called upon to assist.
Chris Jordan's presentation concluded with a film showing excerpts from the many shows which have been produced by Eastbourne Theatres since he arrived nine years ago.
An impressive and commendable contribution to the cultural life of the town. Long may Chris Jordan remain at the helm of our theatres.
After witnessing the cutting of the birthday cake, the Friends had tea, and some were lucky raffle prize winners. The social committee was thanked for such a successful and enjoyable afternoon.
