BEACH CLEAN: Tide Mills Community Beach Clean, 10am to noon on Sunday December 20. (Final meeting of 2015 and annual Christmas Picnic). Meet at the beach end of Mill Drove (off the A259). Come along, grab a bag and a litter picker and help clean up the area for visitors and the local wildlife.

FREE HORSE MANURE: Available on west (Newhaven) side of Bishopstone Road between Bishopstone Estate and Bishopstone Pond: help yourself, but please return or replace the bags.

SHIPWRECK: This weekend is the 216th anniversary of the worse shipwreck disaster in the bay when seven vessels were lost in one night. The recent wind and heavy seas washed up a piece of old oak wreckage on the beach earlier this week as a reminder as the Environment Agency sets to work on shingle replenishment. It must be said, though, that the tragic loss was as much human error as the weather, which is perhaps why it is remembered.
