WI NEWS: From Wendy Day: Members and several visitors met for the June meeting at the OCC to hear Margaret Kimber’s talk about the RNLI. Most of the audience felt they already knew a fair amount about the RNLI but Margaret gave a very comprehensive and informative talk covering the time from its founding in 1824 by Sir William Hillary, to the present day. There are now 236 lifeboat stations and an average of 23 people per day rescued by the RNLI. They also supply the lifeguards on our beaches and since 200 have founded a flood rescue service. All their work is still funded by donations. After a tea break Jane Alvey entertained members with a humorous report on her visit to the W.I’s Centenary celebration garden party at Buckingham Palace. There was then a reminder about the East Sussex Federation event of 100 Years of Fashion, Food and Flowers at the Boship Lion Hotel and the cream tea at Arlington.
