TODAY, the Eastbourne Rambler’s Club is having an eight-mile walk from Plumpton Rail Station, with lunch available from pubs, cafes en route, or bring a picnic. Meet at Eastbourne Rail Station at 9.10am for the 9.28am train. This will be an easy country walk but with some stiles. On Saturday there is an eight-mile circular brisk pace ramble through a Forest. Meet at 9.30am at East Dean car park. On Sunday there is a Herstmonceux/Bodle Street circular walk which will include some hills and stiles. Meet at The Avenue at 9.30am. Dry lunch available.
Friday, October 5 is the first day of an art exhibition by children’s book illustrator David Armitage in the Under Ground Theatre Foyer from 10am-4pm, each Friday and Saturday until November. In the evening at 8pm Ian Shaw and Sue Richardson will be giving a mix of old and new jazz . Tickets £12 from UGT events, the Tourist Information Centre or at the door. On Saturday (6) from 10am to 12 noon there will be a Beatles morning in the theatre presented by Jon Rose and Friends. At 7.30pm James Hyland will be giving a one-man recreation of Dicken’s Oliver Twist characters.
Chatham Salvation Army Songster Brigade will be presenting a Festival of Music in the Eastbourne Salvation Army Citadel, Langney Road at 7.30pm. on Saturday, October 6. Admission by ticket £5 available at the door. On Sunday, October 14 at 10.30am a special Service is being held for gifts for the homeless at Christmas. On Saturday October 6, a coffee morning is being held in Our Lady of Ransom Parish Centre 10.30am – 12noon. Admission £2.50. A date for your diary is Friday, October 19, when a Rich man, Poor man supper is being held in the Parish Centre at 7.30pm, illustrating the injustice of the world’s resources. The speaker will be Canon Geoffrey Daintree, former Vicar of St. John’s Church and now Churches Relations Manager of Christian Aid. Tickets available in advance from Clare on 644372. The Eastbourne Children’s Centre has arranged free swimming for children aged 0 – 5 years on Wednesdays during term time at the Sovereign Centre. Times 12.30 – 1.05pm, 1.10 – 1.45pm and 1.50 – 2.30pm.Just turn up. Telephone 464160 for details.
