Down Your Way: Stone Cross, Westham and Hankham - April 18

MANY hours are being spent by the Trustees and helpers at Stone Cross Mill as the repairs are almost completed. The fan staging has to be constructed and put together and once that is done, the shutters will be fixed to the sweeps ready for hoisting back once the cap and stocks have been replaced.

It is hoped by the time this is all ready to be done, the Mill will have been pressure washed down and a coat of sealant applied before the Mill is repainted.

Many members and visitors have found it helpful to be able to view the cap (which is on the ground) at close quarters, rather than having to look up at it in the sky.

Once the cap has been replaced, this opportunity will be gone, so now is the time to view it at close quarters. The Mill opens Sundays, 2pm to 5pm, with guided tours.

The Mill Store has virtually been completed, having been visited with a new kitchen, the ceiling and walls have been insulated and new anti-slip flooring laid down.

ST LUKE’S community market is held every Friday in the Parish Centre, 10am-midday, is still going strong and there are attractive stalls. The farm stall always has a good selection of fresh vegetables and fruit (in season) and fresh eggs.

There is a baker’s stall selling fresh morning goods and cakes, and if you need anything for the birds visiting your garden then Margaret and John have bird seed and bird boxes together with a range of plants, herbs and vegetable for planting out whilst Paul have a variety of house and garden flowers to tempt anybody.
