THE MURDER MYSTERY PLAY presented by the St Luke’s Players recently was absolutely full of atmosphere. The setting was Middlehampton’s Summer Fete and there were various stalls around the Hall to set the scene: Hoopla, Kill the Rat, and Tombola just to name a few. The audience were seated at tables and the characters in the play circulated, already in costume playing their parts. The Village Fete was arranged to raise money for the Parish Church Roof Restoration Fund and the Vicar, played by Roy Maryan, reluctantly agreed to abseil down the side of the steeple but as the time approached he unsuccessfully tried to back out. Disaster struck as an unknown person cut the rope and he falls to his death. It was up to the audience in their teams to interrogate the “villagers”; work out the clues, delete the red herrings and decide who murdered the vicar, how and why. As nearly all the characters had a very good reason for not liking the Vicar it was not an easy task to decide who was guilty. It proved to be a fantastic and hilarious evening’s entertainment with great refreshments included as well. Well done St Luke’s Players – when is the next one?

This ended a very successful fund-raising two weeks for the Church: during this time four events have raised over £1400.
