EASTBOURNE’S new Tamar class lifeboat, “Diamond Jubilee” is expected to enter Sovereign Harbour for the first time on May 29. Provided that there are no unexpected delays, it is anticipated that the boat will arrive at about 3pm, accompanied by the current all-weather lifeboat, “Royal Thames”, and lifeboats from Newhaven and Hastings. RNLI Operations Manager, Paul Metcalf hopes that large numbers of harbour residents will turn out to welcome the new lifeboat to its new home. “Diamond Jubilee” will represent the RNLI in the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant on June 3.
THE EXAMINATION in Public of the Eastbourne Plan was held at the Town on May 15-17. Members of the Sovereign Harbour Residents Association committee took part on all three days of discussion to ensure that the views of harbour residents were made known to the Inspector. One of the main items covered was the Borough Council’s request to remove Sovereign Harbour’s District Centre status. The change of status was supported by Turley Associates, representing Legal and General, but residents were supported in their objection to the change by agents representing Prudential and Sovereign Harbour Ltd. It is expected that the Inspector’s report will be published in September.
RESIDENTS are invited to comment on the Supplementary Planning Document for the Sovereign Harbour neighbourhood on the feedback form that was enclosed with the leaflet delivered to all harbour homes, or by following the link from the home page of the Borough Council website: www.eastbourne.gov.uk. A public consultation event is being organised at the Sovereign Harbour Yacht Club on Saturday June 3. The consultation closes on July 24.
THE NEW schedule of Sovereign Ward Councillors’ surgeries can be found on the events calendar of the Sovereign Harbour Residents Association website www.shra.co.uk, or in the SHRA notice board at the Waterfront.
